ask me. a piece of the story.
A few years ago I was working on something that didn't go as planned. I had taken into account a lot of different factors and communicated ideas, thoughts and actions yet the problem persisted and visibility was escalating into leadership conversations.
Things were spiraling. It felt like insanity. I remember thinking "Ask me. The person who is doing the work. Ask me. If you need information about a certain thing that I am working on, go to the source and ask me. Don't ask my leadership. Don't ask random people in the room. Don't decide before talking to me. Ask me. I will tell you my piece of the story then you can make an informed decision about what's next."
But no one did. And, I felt helpless, hopeless and awful. And, in that moment of pure chaos, I told myself to remember how it all was feeling. Remember that I can take this new perspective and I can change how I interact with people. I can use "Ask me" to clarify and collaborate. I can trust people at their word and observe them in action.
